Championing the Rights of Detroit Resident Physicians
Who We Are
The Alliance of Resident Physicians is one union with two separate bargaining units that will have two separate union contracts. One unit is for residents at Wayne State University and the other is for residents and fellows that work at Detroit Medical Center hospitals. We are a democratic organization run by volunteer members and our leadership consists of residents and fellows who were elected by their colleagues.
ARP is leading the way to improve the working conditions of resident physicians so we can provide the best care possible to patients while bargaining for the support and respect we deserve on the job. As resident physicians, we chose this career path because we care about people, we want to show up for others, and do what we can to make people’s lives better. Now we’re showing up for one another to improve our working conditions, ensure our patients are getting the best care, and make the entire hospital system a better place for everyone.
Our Unionization Effort
Resident physicians at Wayne State University and those employed by Detroit Education & Research that work at Detroit Medical Center hospitals came together to form a union because we care about our patients, other residents and fellows, and the health of the hospital system. ARP organized with American Federation of Teachers Michigan, which has helped organize thousands of other healthcare workers in Michigan.
